| is it possible to lower the set limits of characters for usernames from 6 to 3? just like some of the rivals? |

Well since my name has six characters I don't really mind the restiction  But I can understand that you can dislike the restriction when you want a vijf (or less) character username. It's nice to have gmail now, so that you can get the username you want. But with that restriction some people might have gmail now, but still don't get their desired username.

Really bad that they did that, because my other nickname had 4 characters. I really wanted to use that nickname but unfortunetely i can't. on the other hand it's better to prevent spammails or whatever.

I think that it was a good idea for google to do this because it prevents spam, and prevents you from getting annoyed with the person who has the email address: a@gmail.com 
Oh well, I hope mine will be 7 characters long! |
