According to one source, Google is rumored to be creating a GUI that will be able to assign both positive and negative weightings to links. This will be based on common link rental locations, and possibly by tracking click traffic via the toolbar.

Link renting is likely to become more confusing as a result. The timeframe for these updates appears to be "months".
