It could possibly harm your search engine rankings.

Link Farms are a blatant attempt to inflate a site's link popularity and search engines take a dim view of them. Using link farms may lead to site penalization or a complete ban from the SEs.

If we knowingly/unknowingly submit our url to link farms, our url would be banned by Search Engine.
But, how do we know which are link farms?
Or shall I say what are the characteristic of a link farm so that we can be careful not to submit our url to them unknowingly.

I'm also aware that even unfortunate submission will lead to ban of the site. But i don't have the exact information regarding the link farm characteristics and its appearance.If somebody could explain, it could be a definite help for our newbies.

All I have learnt as of now rather I do belive that it is wise to exchange links with website's related to the category of our website..... Still I would be happy to know how to know the particular website is a linkfarm or not...
