MyBBoard owns all for free[In my opinion]. But, the problem is, there aren't many hacks for it. It's made by some of the people who worked on most of the earlier versions of vBulletin, so there's a bit of similarity. It runs faster than other BBSes and it has enough hacks that will serve the purpose of most forum-goers(like fast reply, money hack, shop hack, etc.).

I personally like PHPBB since I've worked with it a bit and you can get a bunch of mods for it or make your own if you have the time or knowledge to do so. I also like the newer versions of VB, the older ones had a setup that didn't apeal to me.

| I like phpBB the best because there are many hacks and themes for it. Plus its easy to code your own hacks for it. |

Thanks guys, i'm building some BBS but didn't know which one i'd go for. Now most of us are backing phpBB? Well i'll use phpBB then...
BTW. intelliot, i don't understand your post. sorry, do you mean if i use vB, then i have to pay more money? for what? hosting? or ...

But you can download the vBulletin script from some sites and various P2P networks for free though.
Personally, I don't think vB is worth the pay, and even if you download it for free, which is illegal, they have a list of sites which are registered in their database and are allowed to use vB  ...

Agree with that!  I saw it and it was the only one that really caught my eye. Overexposure from phpBB and Invision I guess. I'll probably switch my forum to this one sometime in the future. =)

phpBB is by far the best. large userbase. plenty of nifty plugins/template. good support.

I remember about a BBS program being featured in the Zend PHP5 contest...and it was linked to from the dotgeek website..I don't have the link, but you can go to http://www.dotgeek.com and look for the link...

I'm extremely experienced with phpBB (I have a pre-mod site thats on hiatus at the moment www.phpbbremix.com) and I'd so go with that until the next version is available (3.0 aka Olympus)
I also am very familiar with vBulletin... Thier coding is far easier, safer and more organized but not as much customization... If you have the cash go for it though... Heres vB sites I run and ran
www.xoxideforums.com (Previous head-admin - Good friends with the owner)
www.mustangtuningforums.com (Same owner as XF - I run it and do everything for them but post rarely cause... I DON'T HAVE A MUSTANG! or a car, or a liesence (sp?)... or a PERMIT!)
