To format is the quick and easy way but not always the best in this kind of situation as you may find yourself in this situation again and then what will you to re-format again.

I think not.

Somebody somewhere must have the same problem as you or lnow about it, its just looking in the right place.

Good luck youll need it.

I read books, I spend time with computers doing many things with them and to them, but don't waste my time formmatting the hard disk: just a backup copy and in a gew minutes the system is ready again absolutely clean. And last time I had to load a backup was months ago, I don't remember...

Whenever anyone tells me to format my hard disk, I burst into a murderous rage grrr Evil or Very Mad...No offense, but in my opinion it's a fool's way of fixing your system. I usually try to find out the source of the problem and fix it from there. So far, so good I've been successful each time Smile. What antioco suggested is also a nice idea. But I think only Windows ME and Windows XP are capable of doing what he recommended. On the other hand you can just go with Linux of which almost all distros are capable of doing what he said.

Well, I don't mean backups made by Windows itself... There are excellent programs to do so.

Sorry I forgot about those ...There are some nice back-up programs which work on all 32-bit versions of Windows like Norton Ghost Smile...

I used to make backups with Drive Image, but since Symantec bought that program I'll have to test Ghost, I've read version 9 combines the good things Ghost has with the good things Drive Image had...

Ghost is great. I used it to transfer to a new hard drive and it did a great job.

That is very good advice, everyone wants to immediately wipe and reload when it is unnecessary most of the time.

Sounds like you have FAR too many processes running. I don't doubt that your computer can handle them, but if your system is truly sitting idle (ie, you don't have any programs open) and you've got over 50 processes running, you probably have some spyware issues. I'd recommend downloading SpyBot and maybe Microsoft's anti-spyware solution, and run them both.
