Which Browsers are the Fastest?
| Quote: | | A guy in the UK has published results of tests he ran on Mac, Windows, and Linux, with as many browsers as he could load on each system. He tested them for cold starting, warm starting, CSS Rendering speed, table rendering speed, script speed, multiple image display time, and history. He then split them into the three OS divisions and made some detailed charts on the results. Yes, the results will surprise you, and no, they may not be lab quality tests, but he does lay out the exact manner in which they were performed. It’s a good read indeed. Check it out here. |

Interesting results! i loved the way the article was written- very lucid and does not indicate any bias!
but apart from these tests, the real test is how comfortable you are with the browser, is it not?
depsite the finding i may not go in for opera for even testing my pages, becasue most people use IE! |

I agree with you cvrk3, unbiased reporting is usually the best for the end users, that way we really get to know the facts without a lot vested interest creeping in and swaying us towards their products so blindly. It seems as if Opera has always been known for its incredible quickness, and it's still the case with these results. I tried it five years ago and decided to uninstall because of the adware. Of course the paid version doesn't include the advertisements, but I went running back to my IE. You mentioned being comfortable with your browser, Yes, it is most important, that's why it took me so long to try Firefox. I'm finally getting it tweaked to the way I like browsing, so maybe I'll have a long relationship with it, like I enjoyed with IE! _________________

| I too opted for opera at the same time you were experimenting it!! some how i felt that it is not right in the commercial world. hence changed back to IE. However now being an ardent supporter of Open source, i sue firefox which was introduced to me through this board! Now i use both firefox and IE ( a necessary evil) |

I too have used Opera in the past. Many of my friends prefer Opera to say, Firefox or IE. It's all about personal preference. Opera was fast and I liked the zoom-in feature, but in all other regards, I found it inferior to Firefox and the zoom-in feature was not anything I really needed. Opera either doesn't have the features or it does but it is implemented much better in Firefox. Like many others, I have also been using IE for a long time and I never had any adware problems with it, not to mention it was fast enough for me. I was reluctant to try Firefox at first but I try to support open-source projects like Firefox and Linux by atleast giving them a try. Firefox wasn't really recommended by anyone to me, I just saw people recommending to others and after a while, due to curiousity I decided to give it a chance(everyone/everything deserves atleast one chance) and I was not disappointed at all. Rather I was very impressed. I still used IE for a select few sites for a while but after a few months, I dropped IE altogether. I switched at no one's behest and I suggest everyone to try it at their own choice and not due to peer pressure or something else. _________________ "A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get it's pants on." - Winston Churchill

I only use IE because there's a stupid app at work that only works with IE. Otherwise, it's Firefox all the way - I just can't manage without tabbed browsing anymore! |

Tabbed browsing is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It has taken productivity to the next level, and is a multitasker's dream come true. I can't believe IE dropped the ball on this feature. They will surely have it in the future, but I can not believe they are letting their market share drop in the meantime. Many people will never go back no matter what it seems. _________________

Cool!, It's hard to find many articles that actually address it. I enjoy reading different stuff at /.
CmdrTaco was interviewed awhile back on the Screensavers and it was very interesting. He's a very level-headed, down to earth sort of guy. I admit though, a lot of the stuff they get into their goes completely over my head. Thanks for finding that. _________________
