| Do you need an FTP client to run a PHP board? How much do they cost? Are there any free ones? |

Hi JshLnsctt, I can answer part of your question. There are some really good free ones available. I like LeechFTP, SmartFTP and FileZilla (Open source) I have also tried 'the famous' WS_FTP ( by Ipswitch) and CuteFTP but they are not free.
All of these have documentation and are considered for beginners and advanced users as well. I personally like the LeechFTP software. It would be perfect for maintaining a website and it's only 600k in size.

I personally prefer FileZilla, and no you don't always need an FTP client. If you have cPanel with/without Fantastico you can install it automatically with one of the cPanel options.

Yes, unless your free provider has some preinstalled addons and themes for you to use. Also, for FTP I use Smartftp.
