I think that Google News has a promising future, but I don't see any changes that have been made in a while now...has the beta testing stage come to a stand-still? Does anyone have information as to what is going on with that feature?

I'm not sure if any more work is being done on it. I use google news daily for my news, so I hope it stays around a while. Maybe some major changes will be noticable whenever they come out of beta. To stay up to date sign up for the Google newsletter.

note how it is powered by Yahoo! Groups... meaning Yahoo! and Google still have a few ties with each other... which is good for both companies. not like usual competitors in this and other industries, where it's totally you against me...

btw, I tried signing up with the '+' feature, but when I clicked the link in the verification email, Iit would say invalid email address. it'll also ask you to enter another email address. I just entered the same one with the + and it sends another confirmation letter. there are two options in the letter, either click or reply. I just replied the second time round...

Yes, but that Yahoo group was started Apr 28, 1998. I wonder if they would do the same today, considering Google's new competing service, Google Groups 2.

You can add personalized settings to your Google News, so many of us will probably use it even more often now.

Quote:

"We've made a number of improvements to Google News that allow you to customize your News front page by creating sections that focus on topics you care about, for instance, your favorite sports team, technology, or celebrity," reads a Google News page posted Wednesday. "You can also design your custom front page by mixing and matching existing standard sections from the 22 regional editions of Google News from around the globe.

In Wednesday's tests, Google News started displaying a customization box listing its normal news categories. Above the box, the site read, "Drag to rearrange page. Click to edit."

Google News readers will be able to create up to 20 sections for their custom page. The customization relies on cookies, or files a Web site places on the visitor's computer to store identifying details and preferences for subsequent visits. Readers can also distribute their customized setting via e-mail.

Thank you cvrk3, I forget we have the New Posts (top right-hand part of the page) feature here and it's so useful. Thanks for reminding me. I'll use Google News more than ever now, I've been hoping for customization.
