Man, this thing is a beast! 16 racks and 16,000 dual-core processors. In the article, they state that it is expected to quadruple in size by May. They evaluate the fastest computer by running a Linpack benchmark It's pretty cool, huh. A teraflop is a unit for measuring the speed of a computer system with a trillion floating point operations per second. Holy Crap, would you pass me the ketchup?
Please, have a look at the source as it contains more photos. Enjoy
| Quote: | IBM's Blue Gene/L became the top contender to the supercomputing throne Thursday, when Big Blue announced that a new incarnation of the machine can perform 70.7 trillion calculations per second.
The speed of 70.7 teraflops, as expected, puts Blue Gene/L well ahead of the 42.7 teraflops Silicon Graphics Inc. announced in October for its Columbia system, as well as the 51.9 teraflops that the full Columbia configuration is expected to be able to reach. The companies are vying for the top spot in a list of the world's 500 fastest supercomputers. The list will be updated Monday |

cvrk, he's being sarcastic.
I remember hearing that they've recently made a huge leap in computer technology--didn't hear further details, sadly, though. _________________ Tetris | Great Big Blog |

Jeezum crow! I didn't think it was possible for a computer to be that fast :O. I wonder how much one of those computers cost...
also, those pictures unfortunately dont work anymore. I got a "Page cannot be found" error. But Im sure the computer must be really large and cool looking .

I'm sorry about the images not working any longer. I pulled about 8mb's of photos down from my host after the images were disabled by Intelliot. No need in warehousing them. I've started adding photos again, but if you see one of my old posts containing image tags, those images will not work. |
