Google Dodges a Bullet
The SEC ends its probe into the search king's IPO -- with no penalties imposed. Its general counsel, however, looks a bit tarnished

...
In a mild postscript to last year's most tumultuous initial public offering, the Securities & Exchange Commission has concluded its probe into Google's initial public offering. The SEC announced on Jan. 13 that it settled charges against Google (GOOG ) for failing to register over $80 million in employee stock options issued prior to its August IPO. In what amounts to a light slap on the wrist, Google and its general counsel, David Drummond, agreed to cease and desist from violating the requirements in the future. No fine was levied.

google appears to be luckY!!

Yep, they are fortunate, but I don't think luck has anything to do with it.

Ok, maybe a little bit. In todays world it seems the message that keeps being sent is one of "do whatever you can to get ahead, just don't get caught doing it"
Whitecollar crime pays well, if you get caught you go to the Federal Prison country club somewhere and if you made enough money before hand, you can pay the lawyers, legal fees and fines and still come out smelling like a rose. In fact you'll probably learn alot of new stuff while you're in prison with all the other cons and such. Ok I've gripped enough for one post. Smile

Falling in love consists merely in uncorking the
imagination and bottling the common sense.

You people are far too pessimistic. Don't any of you follow the philosophy of hakuna matata? Everything turns out fine in the end, whether or not bad things happen. I have a feeling Google will do just fine; their service is far too valuable to the public for it to be shut down. I personally believe that Google should be considered a public good *shifty*
