I am assuming this was disabled in the past few days because of the spamming incident, but it is causing me a problem. I have an avatar that is greater than 12kb:

I cannot upload it because it is greater than 12kb and I cannot link to an off-site avatar because it is currently disabled. So can linking to an off-site avatar be allowed or the maximum avatar file size be increased? Thanks.

Once we get the mods installed for phpbb that intelliot has been told about, we will be able to have our avatars back hopefully. _________________ My Blog | Microsoft Discussion |

I would highly recommend that this modification is installed and we are allowed to upload or link to off-site avatars.

You are correct, we are unable to use remote avatars due to the spamming incident by "Pen-sbot" earlier this week.
Good, this should get rid of bloated, oversized avatars. Such avatars make the site load more slowly and use up more space.
As proof that you can still use avatars as you always have, take randy as an example. His 27.11 KB avatar optimized to just 3.35 KB. That's 12% of what it used to be, and just 27.9% of the 12 KB limit. The appearance of the avatar is virtually the same, and the dimensions of the avatar are exactly as before.
I went ahead and uploaded randy's avatar, so you can see it in effect now. |

| Thanks a lot Elliot! You can see a little bit of downgrade in the image quality but it really isn't that much. A comparison of the two images shows that the degrade in image quality isn't that much. Elliot: Can you optimize my avatar to about 8kb so that I can still have crisp quality? Thank you. |

Any idea's for animated gifs? My cute avatar is 15.9 kb. Anybody want to try to reduce the file size to 8 kb? (there is a reason why I borrow animated gifs, and not make them myself) Otherwise it's bye bye cutest avatar ever. _________________ I love new messages, don't you? |

I don't think you can minimize an animated gif.
In protest you can copy my avatar and use it as yours, so maybe Intelliot will see that he has to change it again _________________ Yunar.com

I already had a quick go before you posted here of trying to do this for you as a surprise for you.
But I failed as the image quality was just to poor, I'll have one more go for you now, wish me luck.
Edit: Here you go tokkolo; the original image format was 255 colours at 15.9 Kb and now its with 62 colours at 11.6 Kb hope you like it:
