Many people suggest me to uninstall the google desktop in order to protect my privacy.
Others said the google desktop search will occupied hundreds of mage bytes in your harddisk to make the index.

Maybe http://localhost:4664 but not http://ipaddress:4664 can keep the guests away. But there must be some ways to access your computer via the port of 4664 so that they can get the information in your computer. Although I do not know how to do it.

If my system root disk is not big enough. The desktop search indexing may use up the disk space.

You can even find the information frags of the deleted files. Updating is too slowly. The deleted file is real privacy that I do not want anyone to read it.

For all that, the desktop search give me convenience. I think I will not unstall it. But it should make me feel more secure.

You are not vulnerable from the internet with the Google Destop Search more than you normaly are...

Google Desktop Search Server runs localy so you have nothing to do with the internet...

Google Desktop Search index is just not big enought to fill up a hard drive... I have a 20GB HD and had like 8GB free before installing GDS and now is just 1GB less... so I think 1GB of index is ok...

Even if I have like 20000 files indexed...

Updating is as fast as Google... Everytime I add a file GDS index it...

I have been using Desktop Search for about a month now. I have found it to be very efficient and does not take a lot of space on the hard drive.

Since I use Microsoft Outlook, I recently downloaded Lookout from the Microsoft website. While it does a good job, and is conveniently located within Outlook, it does not find all the files and e-mails that desktop finds. That is important. What good is a search feature if it does not find everything.

So far, Desktop Search has done a very good job of indexing and finding material when I need it.

Yeah, it's a handy tool. I've got a huge partition filled with backup files and loads of downloaded documents on my pc. Before I started using Google desktop search I sometimes just downloaded the thing I was looking for again, since finding it with windows' search function takes forever.

Never mind the large index.

I'm not so sure about this Google Desktop Search. I haven't tried it yet, but is it really necessary when Windows already comes with it's own search? Personally, I think this program wouldn't benefit me very much.

Well anyways, I will try this program out. It seems like an ok idea. The only thing is, if it does infact take up 1 GB of hard disk space, i will probably have to uninstall it.

Very Happy Hi, I think that desktop search is great. I don't mean this comment to be offensive but I think if people are worried about privacy don't use the internet. If you defrag your drive it should not be able to be found any fragments that might be left. I do system maininance, once a week or more as needed.LaterScott

I use Acronis True Image to back up my primary bootable drive, and I write that image to DVD, so I don't want excess junk on that drive. I would want my desktop search index on another drive. Does google document how to do that anywhere?
