You need to have google polygamy for this to work.
I (S) was chatting with 2 (K & N) other people, so the chat scenario was 3 people including myself.
Each of us (3 users), opened up 2 instances of gtalk on our computers. So in total we had 6 gtalk instances opened up.
For example: on My (S) pc, i had a gtalk instance opened up with K and another GTalk instance opened up with N, K had a gtalk instance opened up with S and another opened up with N, while N had a gtalk instance opened up with K and another with S.
user 1 (S)
user 2 (K)
user 3 (N)
S called K, K called N, N called S
The initial results: (we not succesful but positive)
At a time, S could hear/talk to K, K could hear/talk to S, S could hear/talk to N, K could hear/talk to N, N could hear/talk to K, N could talk to S but not speak to S.
Now we tried this all three ways and we ended up with the same results. So there is a way to make a conference call though we've not quite figured it out completely.
What we're trying to achieve is one person acting as the central Input/Output for all other chatters, so once each chatter connect to the central person they can talk/hear other chatters via the central person.
Another way we're trying to work this out is by studying the port usage and how the mp3 hack over GTalk can be utlized as well.
If anyone would like to contribute towards this round-about conferencing feature over GTalk (until google makes the feature available in their next release) feel free to add me to your buddy list on gtalk. (stravinskyi<at>gmail.com)
Cheers! |

Here's an update:
we've been talking to one of the developers on the GTalk team regarding the conference call method we've been testing, the feedback we received was to try it out with more than 4 users... whcih we're currently working on.
Theres also some one who's written a chat bot for gtalk that supports texting more than one user at a time. This hasn't been tested out yet. You can find out more info about it here. |
