Does anyone use this combination successfully?

Okay, so the GoogleTalk client can't be used. So, next, I tried Trillian Pro. Configured it (again and again) exactly according to the GoogleTalk FAQ. Still not able to log in, due to SSL error. I slogged through the mess at the Trillian community sites, and saw people with the same error, but never a resolution.

[Edit]:

In case someone sees this post as a search result, I did eventually get Google Talk working with Trillian Pro. I hadn't noticed that the "Set Priority" option was tucked away on the "Set Status" menu. I just entered "1" here, and was immediately connected. Yay.

So, then, I tried installing GAIM, and didn't even get that far. Upon installation, I couldn't even get the program interface to appear, even though the Task Manager said that the program was running. So, once more into the Web forums, and Usenet searches. Made sure I was using Truetype fonts in desktop display.

I did see references about problems with (the prerequisite) "GTK+ Runtime" and Win98, but again, I was unable to find any replies with a resolution.

So, if anyone out there has found a workable solution to use GoogleTalk with Win98, I (and, I imagine, some others) sure would like to hear about it.

Hmmm, I tried on my Windows 98 machine with Miranda IM, and it worked. I think you should try with that first and report the results here.
Here are the instructions for setting GTalk functionality up with Miranada IM:

Thank you, Eric. I haven't tested full functionality yet, but this seems to have installed and connected flawlessly. Seems to be a nice, spare interface, as well.

I'm not sure now why I neglected this on that "other clients" page. I suppose I got in too far amongst the trees, and lost sight of the proverbial forest.

My thanks, again.
