Look at this! I never knew animated favicons were possible to implement.
Does anyone know a good program other than MicroAngelo which may be able to help me in reproducing a similar animated effect on a favicon? _________________ Darren loves Tokkolo who has e-feelings for Geekerati. |

look at this website
http://www.bnr.bg/
the method it uses to display its favicon is the line in the header:-
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="/bnr/70/favicon.ico" type="image/x-icon" />
now look at the image file:-
http://www.bnr.bg/bnr/70/favicon.ico
This is simply a gif, saved with the wrong extension, I THINK. |

Ah, so it's really simple after all. All I have to do is make an animated .gif and resize it to accomodate standard favicon dimensions, and then re-assign the file extension to '.ico'...
Well, maybe not, I guess I'll give it a try. Thanks.
Offtopic:
I am the topic starter, I apologize for any confusion.
EDIT:
You were absolutely correct, 'animated favicons' only require .gif format animations to be saved under the .ico extension in order to attain detailed display. Unfortunately, this seems to only work properly under Mozilla Firefox and derivative browsers which support a wider variety of image formats dissimilar to windows icon(.ico) images. Presently, there is no support for pulling this off flawlessly for Internet Explorer. I hope Microsoft adds this for their future versions of the browser. No wonder people are all switching to Firefox, due to the multifarious advantages it weighs over Internet Explorer and the vast quantity of exclusive and innovative features the users acquire for their browsing experience.
PS: Template Ninja -> This is a great site for learning more about animated favicons.
Second edit:
Ah, whatever. _________________ David Bowie.

I am the topic starter, the ignorant administrator banned my previous account owing to baseless, inane reasonings, so I apologize for any confusion.

While i was thinking i should ignore this message, i thought i should respond in the interest of the community and yourself. No doubt you are a topic starter and no doubt you take pains to learn, no doubt you are knowledgeble, no doubt you share your knowledge, no doubt, you are inquisitve, and no doubt, you are interesting. All the qualities are marred by a single act of insanity, sparadic acts of posting gibberish, weaning away from topic of little interest to genuine knowledge seeking persons. Acts of your tanatamount, to sabotaging the great disruptive technology, which change the lives and reduces the great barrier, shrinks the world to the advantage of the individual. Similar acts of improper usage will create barriers by introducing restrictions, unnecessary laws. The loser is the individual who wants to explore the world by sitting in front of pcs. The administrator in my opinion had done good by banning you five times. Banning you sixth time or umpteenth time does not make you a hero!
it only makes you a laughing stock. I believe in the positive side of life. To create is difficult but to destroy is easy. You are trying to become a noted person, by active destructively, as you had indicated that it is your aim to make people leave the board! i only hope that better sense will prevail on you in becoming a notable person acting in constructive and positive manner. |
