I live in Washington, DC, capital of the United States. The "DC" stands for District of Columbia. I must say that I have very mixed feelings about living here. I love my neighborhood, but it is very expensive to live in the District, as many residents refer to the city.

 

The people are generally nice, though they really aren't used to dealing with folks like me. It gets old after a while when everybody comes up and asks you if you need help. I am always polite, but I also ask people just to say hi--don't worry about me because I may be disabled, but I am not helpless. I am a regular person, and I want to be treated as such.

 

DC is known as the city of seven hills, and boy is that right! There are many cool shops, restaurants, and museums. I think my main problem is that I am homesick.

 

I really miss Denver, which is where I lived for 14 years. Denver, Colorado is known as the Mile High City because it is exactly 5,280 ft. (1 mile) at elevation. It is a beautiful city with very friendly people, and since Denver is the home of the disability rights movement, everything is accessible to folks with disabilities, and people are used to seeing and being around us, and treat us like ordinary people.

 

Oddly enough, many folks think that Denver is ver cold weather-wise, but that is not true. Even when we get a lot of snow, it melts quickly. In the summer, the sun can be intense because of the elevation, but that can be dealt with.

 

I have lived in, or visited almost every part of the U.S., but I was born in Chicago, IL. Chicago is known as the Windy City, because of the winds that blow off Lake Michigan, one of the 5 Great Lakes. Chicago is a vibrant city of neighborhoods. You can go from one neighborhood to the next, and it is like going to a different world. However, Chicago is not very accessible to people with disabilities, which is why I moved to Colorado. If I could, I would go back there. Perhaps, one day, I will.

 

Sorry for the long post, but I thought that it would be cool to know something of where I live, where I am from, and where I was born, and what I feel about each, instead of a simple one or two word answer.
