My mother is looking for a new computer, preferably a notebook, but the notebook doesn't have to be extremely mobile.

She works with Autocad, and therefore needs a great graphics card and CPU and RAM. However, she wants a Dell, and, having a Dell myself, I'm telling her NO WAY becuase Dell has only annoyed me since I got the laptop.

Any suggestions?

We also were told by someone, who she trusts more because he's older and was paid for his advice, to get a "Video AGP8 Quadra" with 64 or more MB of memory.

Thanks.

I've always gotten Compaqs which is now owned by HP and never had any issues with them. And you're right about Dell. Our school has nothing but Dells and they're nothing but trouble.

If money is no issue and she wants the best, IBM is the way to go.

PS. One important thing, it's better to make sure that one: don't get notebook with P4 or Celeron based on P4 inside. When going with Intel, Pentium M (and Celerons based on it) only. (some will argue that you've said "doesn't have to be extremelly mobile"...well, the onse based on P4 aren't mobile almost at all...)

Thanks.

Good advice Zima! Smile

I would go to Notebook Review and have your Mother look through it. The website has a lot of good information. Reviews, discussions and pricing. Sony's and Toshiba's are really good, too.
