Most of my work is stored on a USB drive. I would like to store the Desktop search index file on the USB drive and hence use the combination of index file and my USB drive on any computer that has Google installed. Is this possible? How do I set it up please?
cheers,

| What I want to do is change the direction of index files. And I found something in the regedit such as the directions of the program and the index file. But I'm not sure to change it in the regedit will be useful. Do you have time to try? |

Just in case -- if you haven't found the answer yet, there is a GDS plugin you can use to change the default location of your index files and make some other usefult changes to GDS that are not represented in the stock list of options. The plugin is called TweakGDS and can be downloaded from here.
Here is a small description:
With TweakGDS, you can move your Google Desktop Search index, change the drives or subfolders that are indexed (including mapped network drives and attached USB/Firewire drives), and force a complete re- indexing of your drives or subfolders. TweakGDS can also be launched from the command line, so automatic re-indexing can be performed at regular intervals using Windows Task Scheduler. In addition, you can customize the results to display anywhere from 1 to 10000 results per page.
I hope you'll find it useful. _________________ “For Custom Hand-Shredding, Call Herman B., Master of: 1. The Simple Rip-in-Half 2. Neat Thirds or Quarters 3. Itty-Bitty Pieces 4. Fettucini 5. Linguini 6. Capellini 7. Paper Dolls”
