Google has opened Google Talk to communicate with other instant messengers by using web standards. What do you think?
Here's what I'd like to see. A PHP script that I can set up here so that when you use Google Talk, you can IM this webserver and have your messages posted online here at GoogleCommunity.com automatically.

XMPP Specs. But I don't have much of an idea how to make a webserver connect automatically. _________________ Google Search blog |

Hey look here! No one searches the forums anymore or reads for that matter!
Same exact story and source.

That was posted as a reply to a question about using Google Talk to chat with people on other networks. That's similar (because you linked to the story), but it's not the same purpose. The main application of this is actually to make Jabber/XMPP clients work together. In most cases, you'd use a different client -- not Google Talk at all -- to talk with someone who is using Google Talk. This allows users on other platforms (OS X, Linux, handhelds) to connect the Google Talk network without using Google Talk.
You also seem to have skipped the part of my post that contemplates using PHP to create an interface to IM services. _________________ Google Search blog |

I was thinking that you could probably do something like that with email (maybe) by making a cron job that executes a PHP script which checks the email address etc, and no I don't have a clue how to do a cron job not make a PHP script that checks a POP box. _________________ Michael-m.co.uk Forums|Language Wiki |
