I have multiple users in XP SP2 Home Edition (i.e., > 1 user can be logged in at once.) GDS works only for one user (I think the first one to use it after logging in, but it could be the user who installed it.)
Google told me to open Port 4664 on the router using the Applications and Gaming tab, which I did, but it still doesn't work. I'm using ZoneAlarm, have told it also to allow messages to and from Port 4664. I also could use McAfee or the Windows XP2 firewall, or no software firewall at all, if ZoneAlarm is the problem. Has anyone had any luck with GDS in this situation? |

| I've now tried to open port 4664 with no software firewall -- same result. |

This is from Google:
Thank you for your reply. We apologize for the confusion. The web server for Google Desktop Search accepts connections only from the machine it is running on. Connections from other computers are not accepted. As a result, your personal index and search results remain secure.
Google Desktop currently will not support use within multiple user logins simultaneously. If you would like to use Google Desktop across different users on the same computer, you will need to completely log out or exit Google Desktop running in the other login.
If we've misunderstood the problem, or can assist you further, please feel free to reply to this message with a detailed description of the difficulty you're experiencing with multiple users.
Regards,
The Google Team |
