cool! Google News Alerts was a product of Google Labs. hehehe...! I just started using it today. works great! I'm about to try out Google Groups. it seems pretty small as of now, but I'm sure that when Gmail is publicly released, more and more users will also start using Google Groups. _________________

| Excellent. Now I know what their up to! I just downloaded Google Compute. Reminds me of seti at home (was that what it was, I wonder if its still around). I wonder who else will apply to get on google compute, because choosing a place to donate idle time will be interesting. |

| I got Google Compute, but it's not even 1% complete yet, so I'm wondering how long it'll take to complete. |

| the personalized google search engine seems like a potentially good idea. it would save alot of time for just leisure searching time so you don't run into bad websites or websites you aren't interested in. hopefully google will implement this into their main search engine and make it a feature easily enabled/disabled. |

I prefer Google Compute to SETI@home and all other distributed computing projects I've tried. One reason is that it doesn't clutter up my system tray with yet another annoying icon (like anyone needs another one of those). Another is that it seems to be lower impact. I let it run all the time, even when my browser is closed, and I don't notice any of the slow downs or sluggish behaviors that I did with other such projects.
So it's low impact and invisible but productive and useful. The only thing I'm wary about is not knowing exactly what projects my computer will be used for in the future (although I suppose you can find out which projects you're currently involved in simply by checking your status). But for now, no worries. It seems to be doing just the one project and in my opinion, it's a good one. |
