And I found the Google Desktop data file is huge.
Any ideas as to what to do next? Uninstalling it, is a bit dramatic.
Any comments very welcome.

I've just fitted a 250 Gb usb2 drive. But the problem is sort of going to hit me again.
I've got 3 partitions on a 40 Gb HD.
10 Gb for c: just for the OS ( XP home with sp1)
20 Gb for Data (full as well)
10 Gb for Images of drice c: for disaster recovery. (Hidden)
Now I thought 10Gb was OK for an OS, even XP! But each time I install a program it's free space shrinks and finally Google desktop data stopped me burning a CD. (Needed to archive data off the data drive).
Buying a bigger drive for the IBM laptop, seems a bit over the top, when if I could get google data onto the data partition would be a total fix.
Any more ideas from anyone?

The problem isn't the cost of an external USB2 drive. It's the OS is about to die cos Drive C: is full of Google data. I keep loosing data.
Is the only fix to ditch Google DeskTop ?

Well, yea, Unless you want to keep deleting the index file. I got rid of desktop cause I never used it(who needs to search if you can remember exactly where you put files, even files that you acessed years and years ago). _________________ Info Sharkz

Hard drives aren't expensive nowadays. I'd just add more until it's no longer a problem. Obviously, if Google Desktop Search takes up more space than it's worth, get rid of it. _________________ Google Search blog |

Do you rely on the little thing in the Add/Remove window or on the actual program file and the index file? Or do you just keep 1 text file in your documents folder and have everything else excluded from indexing?

GDS indexes every file on my computer and i have 40 GB HD, of which about 30 GB if full
so how can you say that |

Get a webcam and put it over your sholder so I can see what you're doing cause I can't read your mind. The only other logical thing is just that you just have a bunch of files that aren't indexed by the Desktop search.
Bali, you will need to use proper grammar and a dictionary to rephrase your statement.
