Nice, I wanted to try this. However, I think it says that "
The trial version is a fully functional copy of Google SketchUp (free)." at the bottom of the download site. Are you sure this is a fully free version, or is it merely a trial?

Either way, it looks like a nice program. I can't wait to get started populating my neighborhood!

The trial version is a fully functional copy of Google SketchUp (free)
The difference is: The trial version is (or was) only an 8-day version, the Google version has no time-limitations.
It will not have all functionalities of SketchUp v5 which will cost you some $450,-.

Just got it, and it is a fully funcional Demo, not a trial! Thanks for the link, I really like the program. It's easy to use and is, altogether, a great program.

Thanks again,

I downloaded this program a couple days ago. It is really a great program. I was hoping for an easy way to make 3D. I thought I'd find one from Adobe, but Google? This is unexpected.

Okay, now that I've used it more thoroughly, here's my opinion:

It's a great program. Has absolutely no texturing controls to my knowledge, but a whole slew of other features, like X-ray models, even! The interface is really easy to use, you can learn it within 15 minutes, and it's a little touchy but it works. It's got direct communication with Google Earth, allowing it to import the land you're looking at so that you can build houses and whatnot on it.

All in all, it's a great, easy to use program, yet complex features don't get in the way or become impossible because it's easy. There's no modelling features, though I didn't expect any considering it's a house building program. However, for straight edges, this is the easiest thing on the market.

Use it.

This program is amazing. No other way to describe it. I used 3DS Max before this, mostly for fun and for a competition I'm partaking in next year. It can take several years before you can begin to understand 3DS Max, yet with SketchUp, you look at the tutorial and you are done. With any other photo-editing/creation program, you would spend weeks trying to decipher the tutorials, and then not be able to truly use the tutorial, because they are written for the intermediate to advanced user. SketchUp is purely amazing in that field.

Hopefully, they (Google) will be able to get more licensing for the product, such as getting more options for the free version of the product. It would be helpful for those trying to see the full potential of the program before spending $500 to test the program.

It is nice, but some things could be improved. it is hard to move around in it and some shapes are difficult to make.

Well, some shapes will be hard to make. It is just a house modelling program, after all.

However, one thing I'd like Google to allow as an option, is the range for which it snaps onto dots, or at least a key you can hold to temporarily disable it. I've gotten really annoyed at the fact that I have to zoom in so close for a simple point.
