Is it possible to write HTML in GMail? I try to, and all I get back is code. Like so:

Code:
<html><body>
<b>This is bold text</i><br>
<i>Italic Text</i>
</body></html>

I sent that e-mail to myself, and all I get back is code! I need to be able to do this because I am going to start writing a newsletter in HTML for my website.

I suppose that the only solution for you is to write your mail in a standard e-mail client such as Thunderbird and send it through Google. Or use another e-mail provider.
Does somebody know if the other providers like yahoo give this kind of features?

I tried that, but Thunderbird is having a hard time recognizing Google. I always get a POP error and Google's instructions for Thunderbird aren't for the newer one.

Where would I get an old version of Thunderbird? That would be great though. I'll check out MSN and Yahoo today to see if they have what I need. I'll get back with the results.

Thanks for all the help,
SC

Wait a second. If you just want to use simple HTML (like links, different fonts, and different font sizes), you really don't have to use Thunderbird, or any e-mail client at that. You can just use Gmail, as there's always the rich-text editor. But, of course, if you want to do something "more", an e-mail client would be a good choice.

Hope I was of some help. Very Happy

I also found Thunderbird hard to set up Gmail with. It just kept getting errors.
Do you use Hamachi, or another LAN-over-internet program? That's what messed up mine. Also, be sure to follow the instructions to the point. They aren't exactly accurate, but the features are exactly the same and in apporximately the same place as in the guide. However, the SMTP settings are in a different spot than listed, in the account settings at the bottom.

Anyway, I found problems but the guide itself was pretty clear. Make sure you don't have LAN-over-internet programs working!

If you are using firefox, this extension adds a button in the gmail interface to add html to your message:

gmailskins.mozdev.org

Just add html on your rich text toolbar, enter the html and click ok.

Note that lots of html is stripped out by gmail (eg: iframes) for obvious reasons

Look, setting up (even the newer one) Thunderbird is easy. Just because the screenshots are a little different doesn't mean that it can't be done. Note the settings and put them in. If you need help let me know. You can setup Gmail PROPERLY in T-Bird in all of about 60 seconds.

Have been using Thunderbird for about a year with no problems including the beta version presently using. Even have Gmail forwarded to my T-Bird account. This email program works very well for me and was a perfect substitute for MS Express. Import of addresses was easily accomplished.
