Ok since alot of us are in the united kingdom we are forced to use @googlemail.com emails when signing up.
Surely if you know a friend outwith the UK and Germany you can just get them to set your email account up and you will have an @gmail.com address, once they set it up they give you the password and then you can edit your details such as security question, name etc... _________________

It doesn't even ask you ...it must rely on IP addresses _________________ Football Rumours | Gloog |

Yes thats what I mean, it automatically gives you @googlemail.com because it detects you are in the United Kingdom by your IP/Proxy/Hostname.
If you just get someone outside(who you know) to create the account for you then it would be @gmail.com _________________

yeah you can use proxy sites to create @gmail addresses.
Though I wonder if current users in the uk who have a @gmail address will have to change to @googlemail.com? _________________

I am in the UK and have the same problem when trying to create a new GMail account - luckily I got an @gmail.com e-mail address before the restrictions came in.
I am thinking of starting a new topic called "Want a GMail address when you are in the UK?", where people in the UK ask for a username(@gmail.com) adress and then someone (outside UK/Germany) with a lot of invites will send themselves an invite, create the account asked for, and then PM the person in the UK with the password. Rekon its worth doing? |

Probably not... Why don't we just set up a thread about how to use an american proxy for signing up?(I have good idea's, eh?)
Found a nice story about the problem ^_^ we can send loads of hatemail to the people involved!

| Yeah - I sent an e-mail to www.gmail.co.uk (I was going to send one to www.gmail.de but my German is not quite good enough at the moment). The UK Gmail didn't reply. |

Yes, you'd have to use a proxy. This is due to legal issues with the "gmail" name in the UK. _________________ Google Search blog |
