Has anyone used any of the Linux operating systems. Because i just did last Friday. I installed Fedora Core 4 over my favoured OS- XP PRO. So i thought to myself id give it a crack to try it out. Like i read someone's article in a Aussie computing mag, called APC. That he was an xp user himself and thought he have a crack at Linux. He said he fell in love with and put as his default and only OS. Going back to my story.  I installed FC4 and it was okay at first. Then i hated it and realised why windows is the dominant OS. After i tried to remove it. Which took a while, cause my hard disk partioning floppy couldnt see the ex3 file system. I had to put in the first FC4 in and eraese it from there. It just took my time figuring out that Linux is INDEED crap and a OS for nerds. 6 gruling hours to get my pc to xp and installing everthing. WHAT A waste, so what are your opinions on the OS? Linux- 2/10!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, boy. I'm expecting you'll be getting a gaggle of geeks honking at you.
The Penguin People are a powerful and single-minded cult.

Anyhow, I've not tried any kind of Linux.
If I did, I'd put it on a spare drive, or a partition.
No way would I overwrite an OS I was comfortable with to jump in to sink or swim.

There are probably lots of things I'd like about it.
But for the first while, anyway, it'd be like riding a bike with square wheels.
It can be done, but not if you want to get somewhere quick.

So you install one Linux distro and don't like it, and then give Linux 2/10.
Do you know anything about Linux?
There are many distributions to choose from. Some people prefer some distros over other distros. I like Ubuntu and Gentoo.
What you've done is the equivalent of buying a Fiat and giving Ferarri 2/10.

I'd recommend you try another distro [maybe Mandriva; the setup is extremely easy].
But first, find out what Linux is, what a distro is, what partitioning is, what a backup is, what sort of distribution you are wanting, and what would be suitable for you.

I hate it when someone who knows next to nothing about Linux goes slamming it because they couldn't work out how to use it.

Ive got Mandrake 10.1 unstall cds. I'll give that a crack. I also ordered Ubuntu 6 cds for free online on the official Ubuntu website, aprrox i have towait 1 more week to get it shiped to my mail box. My other friend told me not to install Linux, he has a really negative attitude towards Linux. I told him to try one out but doesnt want to. Anyway even though ill maybe like Ubuntu or Mandrake, ill stick with windows forever.

Take a look at Suse, or its free counterpart, openSuse.  These are both very user friendly, and have lots of features (not bugs, features) that can't be found anywhere else.  And the installer is more user friendly than the Fedora one.  After you use this for a while, and get the hang of using Linux, you could move to Debian, or something with more capabilities, that's not as user friendly.
