When I log into my Google Analytics account it only shows me getting around about 30 visitors per day where as my hosting provider stats show me getting over 100 visitors per day. Is this standard?

Not standard, I don't think, but there's usually some difference.
One factor is the growing number of people that have browser scripting turned off, and so are invisible to Analytics.

Thanks for the response, 100 visitors per day might have been a bit of an exageration thinking about it is more like 2000 visitors a month which now makes more sense.

Also I have discovered that many visitors do not get registered in rush hours because tracking relies that it can connect to google-analytics.com.
So the best way to track visitor count is on-site. Use Analytics to track down trends and behaviour patterns. I think there is a way to track people who doesn't have scripting enabled, so you can predict the precentage of users that kind.

Analytics is a good tool but far from accurate when it comes to numbers.

Does anyone know is Google using same invalid clicks filter in Analytics than in Adwords?
