Google's official NOTIFIER

http://toolbar.google.com/gmail-helper/

Download that... then...
Quote:
Gmail Notifier will play a ‘new mail’ sound each time you receive new messages. To specify an audible new message alert:

* Open the Windows "Control Panel"
* Open "Sounds and Audio Devices"
* Click the "Sounds" tab at the top of the "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" dialogue box
* Select a sound for "New Mail Notification"
* Click "OK"

Enjoy... I haven't been able to test it on Firefox yet, as my notebook is broken and I need to take it to the repair shop, but it works with IE6.

I like it a lot. They should have made something like POP goes the Gmail where you can use a POP client to send e-mail using your G-mail account.

Haha that's a good function, however I do not really like sounds. Sometimes I turn my headphones up alot and if the notifier goes off when I'm half dazed, I get quite the scare.

I second POP support. Running on Linux, I can't use these little Windows apps, so folks like me could use something more universal.

No biggie, though. I'm fine using Firefox to do things.

I have had this since yesterday and it has been working out perfectly... no flaws at all... If you have gmail you should get this... No doubt, ahah.. If Gmail could just add POP support then it would be almost perfect!

I like it, more-or-less. It's interesting that it doesn't notify you of new mail that's not in your inbox (stuff that you have filters for that's new).

One thing I quite dislike, though, is that it doesn't really tell you that you have new mail, only that there's something in your inbox. Yahoo's notifier (via Messenger's icon) shows you when you have new mail, and as soon as you visit the mail page the new mail icon goes away, and doesn't reappear until you actually have new mail since the last time you checked. With Google's notifier it just sits there saying you have mail, no matter what you actually do in your gmail inbox: anything in there unread must mean "new" mail, no matter how old or how many times you've seen it, or even if you open the mail and then mark it as unread. Sad
