|
|
|
| Quote: | Microsoft's MSN online division has bought e-mail search firm Lookout as part of efforts to improve its own search technology and compete with Google and Yahoo.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
San Francisco-based Lookout makes software that helps users more quickly search through e-mail stored in a Microsoft (MSFT) Outlook mailbox. Outlook is part of Microsoft's Office software package.
An MSN director said the company will incorporate Lookout's technology into its planned new MSN search offering. That technology, still in development, will let people search the Internet, e-mail, documents and other data. |

Are Looksmart and Lookout the same company or is the thread mis-titled?
I don't think that the public will react kindly to search engines looking through email and documents on their computer--they got pissed at Google for a spider reading just online email, documents are even more sensitive an issue. _________________ Tetris | Great Big Blog |

Privacy is the issue!
How about this.
MSFT may have to aquire a new software in the future to protect users from Lookout searches.
Maybe is will be called Lockout!
Just a thought on the subject. |

i see no threat here, microsoft will never buy google, or overpower google, because the usa would not allow that, a monoply (sp?) would not be allowed... _________________ http://www.thrillnerdshosting.com - Your Start to the Internet |

If Microsoft had purchased Google (even if Google kept the same management and did exactly the same things) it would have never gotten as large at it is. _________________ Tetris | Great Big Blog |
