That's something I can't understand. Well, I understand there's a kind of Gmail fever running out there, but people are going crazy trying to obtain an invitation by any means (handful of $ included, real money I mean, not the one in this forum Wink ).

Who knows if in a few days (or weeks) Gmail opens its doors to the, let's say, general public. Then, all that money went to the garbage. You can think of it in terms of an investment, but... I would invest in something from which I can obtain more, not just a few dollars.

It's a pity, but it's true...

If people knew there were other ways to obtain invites (such as this place) I'm sure there would be a lot less bidding on ebay for them. But of course they don't and will bid like crazy on them, even for 32 of them.

I think those bidders should just wait it out. Let's face it, it's not worth the money if Google is going to release Gmail to the public pretty soon anyway Rolling Eyes Hmm, wow 32 Gmail invites? Lucky person I guess. But I agree with antioco, Google could spontaneously just say, "Hey, everyone can have gmail now! You don't have to be invited to have an account!" and all those invitations would just shoot down in value and become essentially worthless. No one would care about invites anymore, and that person would've wasted money and time trying to get 32 invitations. If this occurred some other time not so hypothetically close to Gmail's public debut, then maybe it would've been worth something, but at this time it is totally unpredictable, everyone is holding their breaths to see what Google will do with Gmail next.

I agree. It is a simple demand and supply situation. Once it is open, you will not find this selling. some are prepared to burn money and people utilise the opportunity of willingness to pay. i will not pay for acquring an invite. it is not worth it.

And if Gmail opens tomorrow, that bidder will have 32 pieces of nothing, because I assume invitations will be no valid anymore the moment the service is open to free subscription...

no one would need so many invites unless they wanted to make a profit...but still 32 gmail accounts is 32 GB of storage and thats almost the amount of an average computer harddrive

Yeah, that auction doesn't really make any sense to me at all. Who would need all of those invites? The only reason I can figure as to why the bidders bidded for them is that if they sign up with all those 32 invites then they can start receiving invites from those 32 accounts and start selling them, because if each account produces lets say 3 invites in the next 2 weeks then the person who won that bid would be able to sell 96 invites for a 300% profit. But then again gmail could be released a few days after he wins the bid and all that money could go down the drain...

nope. they wouldn't make any profit off of those invites because google has stopped the script that sends out all of the invites. i don't believe there have been hardly any invites received in the last month. i used to get a lot of them but then it started to trickle down to 2 or 1 invites at a time. now i don't have any. i haven't received any for weeks now.

I doubt that even 10% of the users will ever hit the limit on the account, and I bet google knows that. (do you think that they have enough room on the servers if everyone filled up all of their storage, or do you think that they asumme that this would never happen?)

Sure i could go to ebay and spend crazy just to get a gmail invite. I would rather wait. Sure there are some people that would give away a invite, and i am not dissapointed that i havent got one. That guy would spent alittle over 115 dollars on 32 gmail invites, that cost him about 3.50 apiece, is crazy. I hope that gmail makes it public tomarrow. I would laugh in his face. hahahahhahahah But anyway like someone said, what do you need 32 invites for? To resell them? Probably. All sums up to one word.... SAD.
