Ask when questions is like asking when Will the world explode. Plus Google may never add Linux support or even Chatrooms. With all of Google's software they don't support Linux or Mac as of yet. Best answer is to ask Google and they may never give you an answer as of when.

I believe you can use other IM clients that run on Linux and Mac to connect to the Google Talk servers. iChat, for example, should work with it.
