Do you build your own computer or buy them already put together? Why?

Definitely, build your own.

You get exactly what you need (hardware and software), based on your expectations for work/play habits, as well as budget; without a lot of OEM fluff and crap that you may never use, or have to pay to renew or upgrade after you get used to using it.

I got the components of my computer all seperately at the computer shop, and of course they put it all in one piece. Smile

ya, building computers is the only way to go, you pay at least 10% less than the maufacturers using the same parts, plus you know everything that going in it. And you can chose your own case. Its easy, I built mine when I was 13. Piece of cake

Thanks! This will be fun. I will enjoy the process of picking exactly what I want for each component.

I sometimes buy them prebuilt because I don't have special hardwar needs (just software), and it's cheaper (when they have special deals).

I suppose it is also difficult for the deceased to get reasonable financing.

I like mondine build them myself because you get exactly what you need for what you want, plus you get to customize it with tacky flashy lights! Wink

Hehe ok maybe scrap the flashy lights but still I think it's better to build your own that is if you know what your doing though of course if you don’t know what your doing you could still have a go as I’ve found out myself that you learn more from trial and error.

I'll definately build my own! you can upgrade the parts whenever you like! I started building my own ones since '94, still remember the 8088 CPU and 256kb memory...

I upgrade my monitor recently - a 19" TFT and this is FAB!

Come on, build your own, DIY is fun!

I buy them ready made. Only upgrades I do by myself. Like putting in extra memory, a Double Layer DVD burner, etc. Maybe I will put one together myself in the future. I don't think it is hard, but it does take time..

...is probably one of the most over rated things ever thought about, its so easy you wouldn't believe it! with a little knowledge you can have a working pc fully customised, ie the hardware where and how you want it. the software is what you want, not what comes bundled. I prefer linux cause its free! I have built about 400 pc's in my time, i've had very little trouble building them. All i can say is just do a little googling on the matter and see what some website say about building them. You'll soon realise that its like making a jig saw puzzle only easier cause the pieces only go one way! (but they don't like the floor or static for that fact) Part of my job now is to look after a load of pc's and its easy once you know how... and once you do know stick it on your cv and people will be like wow...

They do have some awesome pre-built deals from time to time. Although it's nightmare when the proprietary issues start creeping in at the end of your warranty. Plus, the turn around from the big vendors is slow compared to going to your local PC shop and pulling a power supply off the shelf and fixing it that day. Most people don't realize how easy it is to build their own. Hardware is usually simple, the software can be different story. Embarassed
