..and pardon my tech ignorance if this is something easy to figure out.
so i loaded google sidebar (desktop search, what have you..) on my laptop. used it, loved it. had to uninstall though for a pretty bizarre reason. everytime i tried to get my laptop to hibernate it wouldn't. it would go into hibernate mode for about a second then just turn back on. sometimes i couldn't even turn it off!
on a wim i uninstalled sidebar and viola! no more of the strangeness. am i missing the point here? has this ever happened to anyone else? |

I don't use the program, but my guess would be that it was performing a background task, like indexing files, that wasn't being ended. If that was the case, you would probably have to exit the program before hibernating, or look in the program options to see if background processes can be manually suspended. _________________

It's quite an amazing thing that's happened to you, letitbe. But as mondine mentioned, there might a problem with the indexing. You see, I use Google Desktop and I know quite a bit about it. Google keeps records of the files on your computer (as well as the web history) so that they might turn up on their site when you search for a topic related to the file. For keeping records of the files on your computer, Google does what is called indexing (they index your files to their server). But, as far as I know, indexing is performed only when your Internet Connection is idle. So, if it was performing the task of indexing, maybe there was a problem with it.
P.S. I hope you understood what I said. _________________

| I am having a conflict with sidebar and the hibernate/sleep mode. If I have sidebar running and I hibernate or sleep, upon awakening my PC will retrieve e-mail through outlook, but if I look to access webpages through IE , I get a page cannot be retrieved and I need to log off before I can browse. On a few occasions the entire machine freezes so I cannot even shutdown,I have to pull the power cord and power backup to reset. very frustrating , too bad since I really like sidebar. |

If you think all this is happening due to Google Desktop, have you tried uninstalling it? _________________
