Security Council Expansion
The impending security council expansion has to be done with a long term focus on alleviating the suffering of millions of people in the third world.
India, with a population of more than one Billion people is a natural contendor for a permanent berth. Putting aside narrow political gains and equations, represenation should be provided on the basis of certain factors like population, geographical location and the form of government.
When the primary objective of the security council is to provide security to the people of the world, its surprising that the governments elected by a small minority of the world population have maintained a monopoly over this body.
It is about time we make amends to eradicate such gross inequalities.

If World order changes then only India will get permanent Seat at UN and by then UN will loose it's importance.
India has promoted it's weakness on world forum when it comes to solving issue which it is facing due terrorism by pleading U.S.A and UK for baning terrorist groups if you Plea in front of others then you will be in Que for justice and forget about having Permanent seat in U. N which is meant they give justice to others.
911 is best example how to resolve terrorism and they hold they key to U.N. Invasion of Iraq has no impact on U.N it is still U.S.A and U.K controlling U.N.
what is use of U.N permanent seat it eye wash.

I agree with you. But the UN is not strong enough to enforce its decisions in its present form.

Read my post again. 'We', when I talk about India refers to the nation as a whole. With a population of one billion and the second fastest growing economy in the world, I don't find it difficult to forsee the capability to bring about a change.

We need to change the trend of unilateral decisions and a veto would serve that purpose. We need to change the focus from pure economic interests to issues of welfare of the majority.
