When I login into Windows it takes a long time to logon. It hangs on "loading your personal settings." How can I fix this problem?

You might want to have a look at your start-up programs, and see if there are some that don't need to load every time with Windows.

Defragging is always good aswell. A registry cleanup may help as well.

Good advice from you guys. If you wish to speed up things before you get to that part, just automate your login process:

Quote:
Click Start, Run and type CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2, and click Ok. Select the user account from the list (to which account you want to automatically logon). Uncheck Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer option, and click Ok. Type the user account password and complete the process.

For Windows XP Home, don't try to auto-login as the built-in Administrator, as you'll receive a restrictions error.

Since we are discussing Start-up related issues I'd like to share what happened to me the other evening. After I had installed the public version of IE 7 Beta 2 my PC was displaying an error message. It had something to do with MotiveSb.exe-'entry point not found' GetProcessImageFileNameW ..anyways, I was missing the PSAPI.dll. So I did a Google search and low and behold our very own Elliot's response was the fourth in line of the query results. Cool huh! Random and out of the blue! I took his advice and: run/msconfig/startup tab/untick the process/reboot It worked and I'm grateful. What's weird is how could installing the new browser effect/alter my broadband software? It was just weird, cause I download lots of programs and for some reason this time things went sour.
